My words for 2022 are surrender and rest. I choose words and verses for the New Year because I have continuously failed at New Year’s resolutions. I want to grow closer to God and in doing so the rest will fall into place. My verse for surrender is John 3:30, “He must increase, but I must decrease.” Simply put, more of Jesus, less of Tara. My other word is rest and the verse I chose is from Matthew 11:28, ” Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” I want to do a better job of resting at the feet of Jesus instead of constantly finding something to keep me busy. See, I struggle with finding quite time with Jesus. I allow myself to be distracted by my phone and the notification ding of my watch. In 2022, I am doing a better job of having purposeful time with Jesus and finding rest at His feet. I want to learn to be completely dependent on Jesus. This is hard for this control freak personality, but I want more Jesus and less me.
What are your words/ scripture for 2022? I am ready to press in this year.

My verse is: Psalms 27:8 My heart has heard you say, “Come and talk with me.” And my heart responds, “Lord, I am coming.” This verse is a beautiful word picture of pursuing Christ! My word hasn’t changed for a few years. It is still Perseverance. I pray that the Lord works rest in your life as you surrender daily to Him.

My wife and I ‘discovered’ the same verse in 2021, or it discovered us!

This was the first year that I chose a word of the year, and it kind of happened by accident. But I have myself to be stretched too thin these past few years, and God really put rest on my heart. The word of the year for me is “simplicity”. I don’t always need to run the rat race or to “go big or go home.” 🙂 I’m really hoping to make more time for faith and family this year!!

With surrender and rest as your focal points for 2022, you’ll undoubtedly be at a different place spiritually and attitudinally by year’s end, Tara! My word is reverence; the accompanying scripture, Hebrews 12:28-29–“Since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe, for ‘our God is a consuming fire.’” As the year unfolds, I’m looking forward to augmenting my worship. P.S. Thank you very much for becoming a follower of my blog, Tara. I pray you’ll find the posts meaningful whenever you’re able to visit!
